The Victorian Labor Party is expected to expel one of its MPs after she supported former powerbroker Adem Somyurek in referring Premier Daniel Andrews to be investigated over the infamous red shirts scandal.
Mr Somyurek successfully moved a motion in the state’s Legislative Council on Wednesday for the Ombudsman to investigate Mr Andrews’ role in “designing, propagating, and facilitating” the scheme.
Parliament was rocked when Western Metropolitan MP Kaushaliya Vaghela sensationally crossed the floor to vote with her former factional ally.
Ms Vaghela’s support was crucial in securing the referral which was successful 19 votes to 17.
However, Labor Party rules forbid members from crossing the floor against party positions, which will likely see Ms Vaghela expelled from caucus.
